Don’t Allow a Guarantee to Lure You into a MSP Marketing Trap!
In the hilarious movie Tommy Boy, Tommy Callahan played by Chris Farley tries to sell his companies auto parts against a competitor that has a guarantee on the box. He first attempts to explain why his customers don’t need a guarantee were extremely funny and total failures. However, towards the end of the movie Tommy manages to pull of an amazing pitch and convinces a retailer to by his parts without a guarantee. Some MSP Marketing firms are also using the guarantee on the box to lure IT providers into a trap for their website. Can Tommy’s pitch help clear up the matter about whether MSP’s need a guarantee?

As the Auto parts retailer says in the clip, who wouldn’t feel all warm inside with a guarantee on the box! The same goes with any MSP marketing offer in the internet marketing business since IT companies also get a warm feeling inside when they see a guaranteed on the label. As a result, many MSP businesses have signed up for this guarantee and discovered several things.
Just because there is a guarantee on the box doesn’t mean a magic fairy is going to come down and wave their magic wand to get your MSP website top ranked and generating sales leads. The reality is that no one or any business can make all powerful guarantees and always back them up. This is obvious since many IT providers are now complaining that they didn’t get all the results they were guaranteed.
One for the side effects of this guarantee on the box is that it feels so good that it blinds unwary IT guys to very a very real business trap. If you start feeling that the magic power of the guarantee is simply not working and decide to pull out then you’re in for a rude awakening. You will discover that you don’t own the website that was created for you and if you leave you will have to start all over from scratch. Of course, this dire option will only be available to you if you’re able to exit from the long contract you signed while still giddy about the Guarantee.
The MSP Marketing Lesson
This biggest MSP marketing lesson is that otherwise logical IT companies should now throw out reason when they entertain an Guaranteed internet marketing proposal. Remember there are no magic fairies or genies that can make these guaranteed results come to fruition. As we have seen a guarantee is often used to cover up a failing in a product or service and in this case its the loss of your MSP website. Remember if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it with a guarantee, I can, I got spare time. But for your customers sake and your daughter’s sake you might want to think about buying a quality product from me!
