Do you have an Amazing MSP Marketing Tagline Like the Ghostbusters?

MSP MarketingIn the eighties, a movie called Ghostbusters took theaters by storm and became an international film sensation.  In the movie, a motley crew join forces to combat the forces of evil by forming Ghostbusters.  While they didn’t have much in the way of startup funds to get their message out, they still managed to run a few adds then went viral.  The key that helped them reach the community was their brilliant marketing line, “Who Ya Gonna Call?  The question is can MSPs learn from the Ghostbusters’ marketing tagline how to successfully brand their IT companies?

Ghostbusters example

For starters, their tagline is very simple and contains very few words. Keeping their tagline simple is one of the reasons it went viral and was so easy to remember! The message also conveyed the idea that there wasn’t anyone else that could possible help them as they were the only Ghost fighters in the New York area. Asking the question, “Who Ya Gonna Call” illustrated their unique selling proposition! It’s clear that someone in their organization spent some time brainstorming and then tested their ideas out on some of their friends before moving forward.

The MSP Marketing Lesson

To have an effective marketing tagline it critical to keep the wording very short. Too many words can be an obstacle because long tail taglines are difficult to remember and are not ‘sticky’! If you want to develop a simply tagline that conveys a clear message that persuades then you will have to brainstorm about what your core message really is. A good place to get that information is in your core value statements that you should have developed when you started your IT business. If you haven’t created your core principals then now is a good time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. After all, don’t you want your marketing tagline to reflect both your core value statement and your core principals? Finally, it’s important to test market your new MSP marketing tagline before it goes live! What you’re looking for is an immediate positive response from your test subject, avoid asking those that may be inclined to hid an ugly truth.

The good news is that even if your MSP business is short on marketing resources you can still create a tagline like the Ghostbusters did that goes viral and saturates the business community. The key is to follow their example by knowing the core message that you want to communicate and writing it down with as few words as possible. Having a short tagline that conveys a clear message can be extremely persuasive and catch on like fire. If you follow their example closely it won’t be long before businesses in your community begin singing and dancing to your marketing tagline!
